Protecting Health and Homes: Our Commitment to Safe Asbestos Management
At Evans Property Management, the health and safety of our tenants, landlords, and contractors is a top priority. One area we treat with particular care is the identification and management of asbestos in residential properties.
Asbestos was widely used in New Zealand homes built before the 1990s and can still be present in a variety of building materials—from ceilings and soffits to flooring and cladding. While undisturbed asbestos may not pose an immediate risk, once it’s damaged or tampered with (e.g., during renovations or maintenance), it can release harmful fibres into the air. These fibres are known to cause serious health conditions such as mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer.
Our Role and Responsibility
While we are not certified builders or asbestos assessors, our team has received professional training from a licensed asbestos specialist to help us recognise potential signs of asbestos-containing materials. This means we may not be able to confirm the presence of asbestos ourselves, but we will always act cautiously and engage qualified professionals when there’s any doubt.
Our Key Commitments:
Staff Training by Asbestos Professionals
We’ve invested in upskilling our team with guidance from a certified asbestos professional. This helps us to identify red flags, understand where asbestos is likely to be found, and know exactly when to involve the experts.
Certified Asbestos Companies Only
When testing, removal, or remediation is required, we only use certified asbestos professionals. These licensed contractors follow strict regulatory protocols for sampling, testing in approved labs, and safe removal or encapsulation. No corners are cut, and full compliance is always maintained.
The Benefits to Landlords and Tenants
- Health & Safety FirstOur careful approach reduces the risk of asbestos exposure for everyone—especially during repairs or improvements. If we are unsure, we will bring in the experts.
- Early Risk IdentificationWith our proactive stance, we aim to identify potential asbestos concerns before work begins—saving time, money, and stress.
